Negros Islands’ gem of the South

Negros Island Region, My beautiful home province.

Working in the Metro, every time I’m being asked where I came from I would always say Negros, unfortunately the reactions was somehow “clueless” asking me again “Saan? (where?) few people knew or know Negros so oftentimes I’d rather say Bacolod.

Briefly,  Negros or Negros Island Region (NIR) in the Visayas is the 4th largest island in the country, the 18th and newest region (proclaimed on May 29, 2015 by virtue of Executive Order No. 183)  of the Philippines.  NIR comprising 2 provinces  Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental (both considered as 1st class provinces according to Rappler (data provided by COA per audit result of 2013), the highly urbanized city of Bacolod and 18 component cities, 38 municipalities and 1,219 barangays.  Influenced by the Spaniards and later on Americans Negros have also this unique, distinct and rich cultural heritage. And that is manifested in the fields of Music, Arts, Culinary, Politics, Sports, Economics etc.

Along with its corresponding outlying islands and islets,  it is  located between the islands of Panay and Guimaras to the west and Cebu to the east, with Siquijor located on the toe of the island and the island of Bantayan to the north. And because of this geographic location, surrounded by waters beautiful and white unspoiled beaches are amongst one of the tourist attraction in the region.

Here’s the glimpse of the few from among the many beautiful places in the Southern Negros or commonly known as CHICKS Area ( towns of Candoni, Hinobaan, Ilog, Cauayan, Kabankalan & Sipalay) that I may share & proud of. There are still beautiful spots that is not included in the photo like Danjugan Marine Santuary, Punta Bulata Resort both in Cauayan and other dive & beach resorts in Sipalay will be included in my next blog.

Looking forward that you visit Negros and include in your bucket list someday and i guarantee you will enjoy & your vacation is going to be worthwhile.;)
